Driving has been a part of everyday life now for so long that it is easy to take for granted that we are operating very heavy metal contraptions at relatively high speeds. It's very easy to get distracted when behind the wheel, especially during long commutes, and too often, what is supposed to a convenient means of transportation becomes a very inconvenient means of destruction.

April is Distracted Driver Awareness month, so Honda has developed a new social media campaign that targets driving while distracted. Using the hashtag #PhoneDownEyesUp, the automaker is releasing a series of videos throughout the month of April comparing the difficulty of texting and everyday tasks to the difficulty of texting and driving. The videos assert that if you can't text and do things like cook, clean, cut hair, or exercise, then you definitely can't text and drive.

Honda has also released a few lock screen wallpapers for smartphones to help remind drivers to put their phones away when behind the wheel.

"Honda is deeply committed to enhancing the safety of everyone on the road, so it's imperative that we encourage everyone to stay focused, and remind them about the dangers of texting and other potential distractions while behind the wheel," said Susie Rossick, Assistant Vice President of Marketing at Honda. "This campaign is intended to be both relatable and shareable content that will reach millennials and deliver an easy-to-understand message about the very human limitations we all have when it comes to driving while distracted."
