By now you have probably heard of the disastrous situation in South Carolina. Excessive rain caused many dams to fail, resulting in widespread flooding that has been the cause of at least 17 reported deaths, and possibly over a billion dollars in damage to property and infrastructure. The rains have stopped, but the state is scrambling to put the pieces back together. 16 water systems were affected, causing 400,000 residents to be under a "boil water"advisory.

Today, we learned from a press release that Honda of South Carolina Mfg., Inc (HSC) is stepping up to give $100,000 dollars to three community organizations in the areas hardest hit by the catastrophe. The company employs 1,000 associates in a more than 655,000 square foot facility. “Honda and our associates want to help provide support for the many individuals and families, and our neighbors, who have been devastated by these historic floods. We believe it’s imperative for Honda to support our community in a time of need," said Brian Newman, president of HSC.

The Red Cross of Pee Dee will receive $50,000; the Eastern Carolina Community Foundation will receive $25,000; and Harvest Hope of Pee Dee will also receive $25,000. Furthermore, it was reported that Honda Financial Services will be working with customers affected by the disaster, waiving late fees and granting extensions when necessary.
