With all of the great models offered within the new Honda lineup, it's hard to say that there is a vehicle missing. However, Honda enthusiasts have always had their fingers crossed that the automaker would one day bring back a stylish convertible like the S2000 model of the past. The upcoming unveiling of a new concept model has all of us quite hopeful that something similar may soon return.
At the Tokyo Motor Show, Honda plans to unveil its S660 Convertible Concept. Luckily there have been a few photos released to hold us over so we have an idea of what we can expect. For starters, the concept is a micro-sports car that received its styling inspirations from the automaker's EV-STER concept it unveiled back in 2011. The major difference being that the new convertible doesn't sport its all-electric powertrain, but instead a turbocharged three-cylinder gasoline-powered engine.
In terms of performance, the S660 will only crank out 64 horsepower, but thanks to its aerodynamic design that makes it less than 2,000 pounds, it will still be quite spunky when out on the road. We have a feeling Honda was going more for design rather than speed with this concept anyhow.
Will we be seeing this compact convertible in our Steve Hopkins Honda showroom? At this point its fate remains quite unclear. We'll simply have to wait and see what the outcome his once its unveiled at the auto show later next month.
