We here at Steve Hopkins Honda have a few tips for breaking your Honda in for a long and healthy life. Choosing your new Honda from our dealership was easy. But now, you must protect it. There are a number of things you can do that can have a major impact of the life of you new car.

To help reduce trips to our Honda service station, follow the below recommendation during the first 1,000 miles of you vehicles.

  1. Avoid transporting heavy loads of cargo: Whether it's towed, tied to the roof, or stored, loading up your new Honda with too much weight is bad for the drivetrain. After you've broken it in, you should still stick to your specific model's capacities (see owner's manual).
  2. Keep your speed under 55 miles per hour: This might be a hard one to follow, especially on highways, but doing so will ease the engine in your Honda into a long life of service.
  3. Do not allow your Honda to idle: This tip actually stands even after the break-in period, but it's especially important to follow during it. Allowing your engine to idle may cause oil to not be sent to every part of the engine.
