Rely on Safety Ratings to Help You Choose Car

Although no one likes to think about having a car accident, you want to be prepared if you ever find yourself in such as a situation. One way to be prepared is to check the safety ratings of your vehicle before a purchase is made.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) is a non-profit organization that conducts five tests on the likelihood of injury in various collision scenarios. The cars that do the best in these tests have earned the Top Safety Pick award. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a government agency, conducts three tests and uses a formula to assign a star rating to vehicles. One star is the lowest rating while five is the highest.
